KENSINGTON 2

Design Objective

In a well-established neighbourhood, this renovation and addition was designed for a young, busy family seeking more space for gathering and everyday living. The goal was to create a modern, functional home that balances comfort and style.

Project Overview

The main requirement in this renovation and addition project was to allow for expanded living areas, better flow, and improved connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Large windows, clean architectural lines, and a light, modern palette create an open and airy atmosphere while maintaining a strong sense of warmth and comfort.

By reimagining the existing structure, the design not only met the family’s needs for space and practicality but also enhanced the home’s overall value and presence within the neighbourhood. The result is a modern, 2 storey family-focused home that supports both quiet moments and lively gatherings — a timeless addition to its surroundings and a lasting investment in family living.

The kitchen was expanded to include a linear hidden pantry, light oak shaker-style cabinetry, and a custom plaster-finished hood fan. Quartz countertops and backsplash add a refined simplicity, and ease of cleaning while a fluted island face brings subtle texture and craftsmanship. A corner nook gives way for bench seating and a place to read receipt books and enjoy a coffee.

The new ensuite, part of the addition, features an angled freestanding tub framed by soft sheers. Using gold fixtures allowed for a point of luxury, a free standing tub filler is like a piece of jewelry in the room. A large glass shower with herringbone-texture tile houses a transom window to bring in addition light. A double vanity gives the family ample counter space and the separate toilet room allows for privacy. Overall a serene, spa-like retreat was created. On the main floor another show stopping bathroom, the powder room serves as a statement space with a thick, vein-patterned quartz countertop.

A new staircase connects to the upper level, featuring horizontal metal railing and a striking 14-foot window that floods the home with natural light. 3 additional bedrooms with new flooring, paint and furniture finish off the upper floor.

The exterior blends stucco, wood-look metal siding, and stone for a transitional style that complements the character of the neighbourhood while giving the home a fresh, contemporary presence.
