EAST KELOWNA POOL HOUSE
Design Objective
The Kelowna pool house was designed for clients who approach entertaining their friends and family with grandeur. Hosting gatherings of 60-80 people is the norm for this family, and they wanted a space where their guests could feel comfortable and truly at home.
Project Overview
A luxurious pool house was designed as an extension of their home, offering both comfort and practicality year-round. The exterior mirrors the main house with white board-and-batten siding and cedar-tone wood soffits, tying the two buildings together aesthetically.
To enhance the indoor-outdoor flow, accordion style windows and doors were incorporated, opening the space fully to create a harmonious connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape..
The pool house offers all the amenities of a full kitchen, complete with a range, microwave, and dishwasher, eliminating the need for the family to traipse back and forth to the main house for food and cutlery. The countertops are crafted from durable Dekton porcelain slabs, which are ideal for outdoor use and extend outside to form an eating bar, facilitating an effortless transition between lounging by the pool and enjoying a meal. Adjoining this is a custom-built white oak bar, designed not just for functionality but also for aesthetic appeal. With ample storage, the bar becomes a centerpiece for entertaining. The Dekton countertops and backsplash not only offer environmental benefits (a blend of non-polluting substances) but also amplify the space’s elegance, while custom-designed brackets support backlit glass shelves, creating a warm glow that elevates evening gatherings.
The flooring was purposely selected to handle wet feet and towels, featuring 2cm wood-grain outdoor-rated tiles that smoothly transition to the concrete patio. This durable material ensures the space remains practical and inviting, even with heavy use.
A stylish full bathroom, featuring a custom-tiled shower and bold, eye-catching wallpaper that adds a touch of personality to the space and a place for guests to rinse off after using the pool or hot tub.
A natural stone gas fireplace serves as the focal point of the living space, its rich texture complementing the warmth of the white shiplap ceiling and custom white oak beams. These elements were specifically chosen to add warmth, interest, and a sense of character to the space. The inclusion of natural materials like stone and oak further underscores the environmentally friendly approach of the design, while also enhancing the cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail in these features transforms the pool house into a luxurious space.
